The heat index has reached 100º all this week in our neck of the woods.

We've survived without turning the air conditioning on so far, but it's not too much cooler inside than outside in the sweltering sun.

It's a summer week that puts the kibosh on ovens and hot showers and running in the afternoon after work, or anytime for that matter.

It's a summer week that screams "beach day!" if only we were carefree and unemployed.

Even if we had been anticipating summer all fall, winter, and spring long, secretly we never wanted it quite this much. At least that's what we feel like right now, when evening lows in the 70's are a reprieve.

We humans are as fickle as the weather.
